Meet Jordan Crosby
Hi there, I’m Jordan (he/him)!
I’m a therapist offering DBT to clients in Seattle and across Washington, North Carolina, and South Carolina through virtual sessions.
Most of the people I work with feel like their lives have been chaotic for a while. Emotions feel intense, relationships can feel unstable, and it’s hard to find solid ground. If that’s familiar, my goal is to help you move toward stability first. From there, we can begin to process trauma and build a life that actually feels aligned with what you want, whether that’s in your relationships, career, education, or family life.
My approach is grounded in the understanding that identity matters. Race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and lived experience all shape how we move through the world and what support has or has not been available to us. Therapy should reflect that reality, not ignore it.
Prior to my move to Seattle, my therapy career began with a focus on empowering the LGBT community, People of Color, and those living in poverty in rural Appalachia. Even early in my career, I saw just how deeply systemic oppression and chronic invalidation impact mental health. That work continues to shape how I show up in the room.
In the context of gender and sexuality, I work from an affirming and nonjudgmental stance with a wide range of identities and experiences, including people who are openly queer, closeted, kinky, polyamorous, involved in sex work, navigating STI diagnoses, or part of communities that are often misunderstood or stigmatized. I actually started doing this work right across the street from one of the largest conversion “therapy” organizations in the world back in South Carolina. Thankfully that organization has since closed (good riddance), and the work of building affirming spaces continues.
One of the biggest reasons I entered into this field and fell in love with DBT was my own experience of personal loss. In my late teens and early twenties, I sadly lost several people close to me to suicide over the span of a few years. I was left with so much pain and so many questions. I never wanted anyone else to experience what those people in my life were living with prior to their deaths. That grief shaped my commitment to creating a space where people don’t have to struggle in silence and where support feels real and accessible. It’s also given me a passion to be a part of the much-need reform to our mental health system. All people have a right to safety, healthiness, and happiness.
At the core of my work is the belief that change happens in the context of a strong relationship and connection. I aim to be someone you can relate to as a human, while also bringing the structure, skills, and clinical knowledge needed to actually help you move forward. Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and focused on helping you build something different.
While I don’t design my treatment to bring in any sort of religious views, I do value and respect the religious and secular beliefs and practices brought in by my clients. I try to stay as informed as I can about the many different practices out there in the world. I love to learn more and welcome the opportunity to have my perspectives broadened.
Outside of therapy, I’m heavily involved in music and the arts and participate in multiple musical ensembles in my community. Creativity is one of the ways I stay connected to meaning in my own life. If you don’t find me playing an instrument or listening to music, you will surely find me either in some sort of nature searching for an orca or eating all of the delicious cuisine offered in Seattle (namely Thai food and iced lattes). If you need an additional vibe check, my top artists on Spotify are Noah Kahan, Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, Hozier, and Kasey Musgraves. When I’m not in my feels with the singer songwriters, I’m for sure listening to dance pop, hip hop, and all of the music played at my school functions in the early 2000s.
If you’re looking for a DBT therapist in Seattle, Washington, North Carolina, or South Carolina, and this approach resonates with you, I warmly welcome you to schedule a consultation. We can talk through what’s been going on and see if working together feels like a good fit!
